Description

EDENHAM CHURCH LANE TF 02 SE (north side) 7/113 The Vicarage G.V. II Vicarage. Early Cl7, altered late C18 and C19. Coursed limestone rubble, ashlar quoins and dressings, concrete plain tiled roof, 3 red brick gable stacks. L-plan. 2 storey plus attics, 3 bay front having central half glazed double doors with to left a canted bay French window, with flat lead roof, with to right a tall glazing bar sash. To first floor are 3 plain sashes. Openings have plain ashlar lintels with incised keys. The right hand side has an open loggia with shaped copper roof and latticed wooden supports in the Chinese Taste. In the roof are 3 dormers with 2 light casements and leaded cheeks. Between middle and right hand bays a building line can be seen running through both floors. To the right of the front a 2 storey, single bay separately gabled wing projects, Beyond, to the right, is a 2 storey, 2 bay late C18 service block, forming one side of a yard. Charles Kingsley is supposed to have written "Hereward the Wake" here. Listing NGR: TF0622621814
