Description

SK 84 NE CLAYPOLE RECTORY LANE (east side) The Old Rectory (formerly listed as 3/12 Rectory) 19.2.52 II Small country house. C17, 1683, C18, C19. Red brick, gault brick, rendering, some ashlar dressings,with plain tiles and concrete tiles on roofs. C17 rendered red brick north front with 3 stone coped gables with kneelers and irregularly placed stacks at rear. C18 south range, encased with gault brick in C19, with hipped roof and irregularly placed stacks at rear. Plain C19 block to east with hipped roof and single tall ridge stack. Late C19 block to west. North front of 2 storeys, 5 bays with off centre doorway under C19 gabled porch with burnt header decoration, ashlar dressings, 4 centred doorway and two, 3 panelled doors. Single, central staircase window with segmental head. East of porch, a single window with 2 windows with segmental heads above. To west of staircase window are 2 ground floor windows with segmental heads with 2 windows above. All windows have C20 glazing bar sashes. South front of 2 storeys and 5 bays with brick and stone plinth and dentillated brick first floor band. Central ground floor window knocked through with doorway with ¾ glazed doors. Flanked by 2 windows with 5 above all with plain sashes. All ground floor openings have stone lintels. Interior oak dog leg staircase with half landing, barley sugar balusters, moulded handrail and date of 1683 on newel. C17 roofs of 3 gables and 4 bay roof over main north range have few modern timbers. The curved braces and purlins are tenoned into the tie beams. Both north and south ranges have late C18 niches and fireplaces. Listing NGR: SK8519049107
