Description

CORBY GLEN CHURCH STREET TF 02 SW (south side) 6/79 The Rectory (former- 30.10.68 ly listed as the Vicarage) wall and gateway G.V. II Former house, now rectory, wall and gateway. Late C16 with late C17 addition and in 1814 alterations to form a vicarage. Coursed squared limestone rubble, ashlar quoins and dressings. Ashlar. Collyweston slate roofs with stone coped roll moulded gables. 2 moulded stone gable stacks, a similar ridge stack with 4 shafts and a large external wall stack to rear, all having moulded cornices. 2 storey, 7 bay front, the central bay is advanced and separately gabled and has in the side wall blocked C17 square openings, this with the 3 bays to the left was a late C17 addition. Plinth. Central 6 panelled door with fanlight in moulded stone architrave with impost blocks, to left 3 glazing bar sashes to both floors. To right a full height glazing bar sash with beyond a 2 light mullioned window and a 3 light similar window both with cornices. Above the door are glazing bar sashes to each floor, with to right a further similar window and a pair of 2 light chamfered mullioned windows. All glazing bar sashes have slightly cambered ashlar heads with raised keystones. Interior retains early C19 stick baluster stair with wreathed handrail and some early C19 architraves and fire surrounds. Attached to the north wall of the rectory is a coursed limestone rubble pantile coped wall, apparoximately 6'O" high, containing a late C17 ashlar gateway with central planked doorway in segmental headed chamfered surround with plinth and cornice over. Flanked by square piers having moulded cornices and tall ball finials. An ashlar gabled coping links the tops of the piers. Listing NGR: TF0014224974
