Description
TF 03 NW HEYDOUR MAIN STREET (west side) 3/17 19-2-52 Heydour Priory II* House; late C16 with C17 and minor C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, stone coped gables with finials, off centre stone ridge stack on plain tiled roof. 2 storey with garret, 4 bay facade, single storey with attic one bay facade to right, all with ashlar quoins. The entrance is on the end bay to the right and is a plain C19 door with C16 4 central head and hood mould over. In the spandrels are fine C16 carvings of a cat and a salmon with a beasts head projecting from the arch itself. The doorway reveals are moulded and terminate in carved animal stops. To the left is Cl7 projecting full height one bay gabled stair tower with finial and quoins in full to one side only. It has 2 single light casements with cornices to 1st and 2nd floors. The ground floor window is in the side. On one quoin on the right is a scratch dial with Roman and arabic numerals. The stair tower is flanked by to the right a 4 light mullioned casement and to the left a 3 light similar casement. Above the door is a 2 light mullioned casement and to the left a 3 light similar window. All mullions are cavetto moulded, the casements are timber with leaded cames, and have cornices over. The single storey bay has a C20 4 light mulliuned window and a gabled dormer over. The main one bay gable end has a plinth and three 3-light restored mullion casements. The rear elevation also has a plinth and two 4-light mullioned windows to ground floor and two 3-light and one 2-light to 1st floor. Interior has very fine circular stone newel staircase which rises to garret in its own stair tower. Both principal rooms have large fireplaces that in the end room having a fine 4 centre stone arch with moulded stops to reveals and a stone cupboard beside it. In the 1st floor room over is a similar taller stone fireplace. Listing NGR: TF0102239465
