HARLAXTON SK83SE GRANTHAM ROAD 1315-0/6/179 (South side (off)) 24/09/79 Gateway and screen wall 1200 metres north-west of Harlaxton Manor (Formerly Listed as: GRANTHAM ROAD Gateways, gates, flanking screens and walls at main entrance to Harlaxton Manor) II* Gateway and screen wall at the entrance to Harlaxton Manor. c1832-1844. Probably by Anthony Salvin or William Burn for Gregory Gregory. Ashlar. Segment arched gateway with keystone, square piers with rusticated niches, and moulded coping with freestanding sculptures of sheaves and a bird, elements of the Gregory coat of arms. Pair of wrought-iron gates. On either side, concave screen walls with moulded coping, and volutes supporting the gatepiers. Beyond again, 4 bay screens with square piers and concave-topped cast-iron railing. Beyond them, solid walls with plain coping, the section to right, approx 80m long, with a pedestrian gateway.
