Description
HARLAXTON SK8832 CHURCH STREET 1315-0/14/158 (North West side) 24/09/79 Vine Cottage GV II Pair of estate cottages, now a house. c1800, remodelled c1820-1840, with late C20 alterations. Brick with ashlar dressings and pantile roof with catslide at rear. Central ashlar ridge stack with coped double flues. 2 storeys; 2 window range. To left, a reglazed gabled through-eaves dormer with sham timber framing, and to right, a small single casement. Below, a stone mullioned 2-light casement, flanked to right by a larger 2-light glazing bar casement, both with stone surrounds. Beyond, on either side, a doorway with chamfered rendered surround, the left with a plank door, the right blocked. Left return has a C20 first floor window. Below, a 2-light stone mullioned window flanked to left by a stepped ashlar buttress. This building is one of those remodelled in a picturesque style c1820-1840 by Gregory Gregory, Lord of the Manor of Harlaxton. Included for group value.
