Description

HARLAXTON SK8932 GRANTHAM ROAD 1315-0/15/168 (East side (off)) Statue at head of ornamental garden steps 50m south-west of Harlaxton Manor GV II Statue on pedestal. Pedestal c1838-1844; statue c1948-1966. Ashlar. Square pedestal with strapwork ornament, moulded plinth and cornice. Statue of a priest holding a child. Approx 1.5m high. The pedestal is part of the original garden furniture of Harlaxton Manor. The statue was placed here by the Jesuits, who occupied Harlaxton Manor from 1948-1966. This building appears within Harlaxton Manor Gardens which are on the gardens Register at grade II*. Included for group value. (Rowlands G: Harlaxton Manor: Harlaxton: 1984-: 29).
