Description
BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9339 MAIN STREET, Belton 1315-0/9/43 (East side) 21/09/79 Nos.8 AND 9 (Formerly Listed as: VILLAGE STREET Nos.8-11) II Estate cottages, now houses. Mid C19, with late C20 alterations. Red brick, with ashlar and brick dressings, and slate roofs. Coped brick and stone gable and ridge stacks. Jacobean Revival style. Plinth, quoins, first floor band, coped gables with kneelers and ball finials. Single storey plus attics; 2 window range. Windows have stone surrounds and chamfered mullions, and cast-iron lattice glazing bars. 2 through-eaves dormers with shaped gables and 2-light windows. Below, an off-centre C20 door flanked by 3-light windows. Beyond, to left, a single light window. Left return has 2 single light windows, and above, a blank shield. Below, a similar window and a C20 door. Estate cottages provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
