Description
BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9237 LOW ROAD, Manthorpe 1315-0/11/129 (South East side) 21/09/79 Nos.31 AND 32 II Pair of estate cottages, now houses. Mid C19, with late C20 alterations and rear addition in matching style. Brick and coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and steep pitched slate roofs. Central rectangular stone ridge stack with chamfered coping, and similar smaller rear wall stack. Tudor Revival style. Plinth, quoins, coped gables with kneelers and finials. 2 storeys; 4 bays. Windows, reglazed late C20, have chamfered stone surrounds and mullions. In the centre, 2 gables, each with a 2-light window. Below, to left, a square stone bay window with hipped roof and a 3-light window. To right, a 4-light window. Beyond, on either side, a single light window. Right gable has a 2-light window with a slit breather above it. Below, to left, a 4-centred arched plank door with ornamental hinges under a rustic style gabled hood. Left gable has a 2-light window on each floor. Estate cottages provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
