Description
STOKE ROCHFORD STOKE ROCHFORD PARK SK 92 NW 6/169 Ornamental archway, 250 M south west from Hall 14.7.1978 I Archway. 1676, re-erected in C19 as landscape ornament to Stoke Rochford Park for Sir Christopher Turnor. Ashlar with coursed limestone rubble rear buttresses. Plinth, rusticated quoins and segmental pediment. Round headed central archway, rusticated, with key block flanked by panelled Doric pilasters, within the bases blank semi-circular headed niches with key and impost blocks, and cornices. Above the arch a rectangular moulded panel containing date 1676 and inscribed "Quo conspedior eo humilior". Above the dentillated cornice is a keyed oculus with rusticated slightly advanced panels to either side. Thought to have come from the stable block of the earlier house. Listing NGR: SK9163427734
