CASTLE BYTHAM MORKERY LANE SK 91 NE 8/66 Horse Monument in Morkery Woods, Grid Ref.955185 II Monument to a horse called The Butcher, belonging to Field Marshall Grosvenor c.1850. Ashlar. In the form of a low obelisk standing on a rectangular tomb chest on the front panel of which is a low relief carving of a horse with a docked tail and a tree. On the rear panel is a poem, 8 lines, recording the circumstances of old Butcher lying in Morkery Wood, now somewhat worn.
