CASKGATE STREET 1. 5315 (East Side) Elswitha Hall SK 8189 1/9 4.4.64. II* GV 2. C18. Substantial town house of red brick. Basement, attics and 3 storeys. Hipped pantile roof with modillion cornice. 5 windows, hung sashes with glazing bars in shallow reveals with flat arches, brick voussoirs. Doorway up stone steps has eared architrave surround, large console brackets, broken segmental pediment. Back wing of 2 storeys with semi-circular bow. The birthplace of Sir Halford J Mackinder, the geographer, 1861-1947. Elswitha Hall and gatepiers to Elswitha Hall form a group. Listing NGR: SK8136889851
