Description

HARLAXTON SK8832 HIGH STREET 1315-0/14/197 (East side) 24/09/79 No.77 The Forge (Formerly Listed as: SWINE HILL The Forge) GV II House. Dated 1794, remodelled c1830, with addition in matching style late C20. Brick with ashlar dressings and renewed plain tile roofs. 2 stone gable stacks with coped square double flues. Dentillated eaves, coped gables. 2 storeys; 3 window range. Openings have stone surrounds and mullions and leaded glazing, under earlier brick flat arches. Central 2-light window with, above it, a datestone inscribed "GDG 1794". On either side, a 3-light window. Central Tudor arched stone doorcase with adjoining single light window to right, under a common label mould. C20 door. Beyond, a 3-light window on each side. To left, single storey garage. This building is one of those rebuilt c1790-1820 by George de Ligne Gregory and remodelled in a picturesque style c1820-1840 by Gregory Gregory, successive Lords of the Manor of Harlaxton.
