Description
BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9237 LOW ROAD, Manthorpe 1315-0/11/132 (South East side) 21/09/79 No.36A Farm Cottage II Estate cottage, now a house. Mid C18, remodelled and extended mid C19 and restored 1992. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and steep pitched pantile roofs. Tudor Revival style. Single storey plus garrets; 2 window range. L-plan. Coped facing gable, to right, has an external stack with a coped square ashlar flue set diagonally. At garret level, a blank shield on the stack, flanked by single light windows, all under a common label mould. Left wing has a 3-light window with stone mullions. Left gable has identical stack and fenestration to the front gable. All these windows have chamfered stone surrounds. Right return has irregular fenestration. To right, a lower rear range, with a single door and window, and rebuilt gable stack. To left, a door flanked by single windows, and above, a single window. An estate cottage provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N, Harris J & Antram N: Lincolnshire: London: 1964-1989: 550).
