Description
SWINSTEAD BOURNE ROAD TF 0022-0122 (east side) 15/210 Nos.4 and 6 G.V. II Formerly row of cottages, now a pair. Originally C17, altered c.1720, probably by Sir John Vanbrugh, with further C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, pantile roof with stone coped gables, 2 gable and 3 ridge stacks with stone bases and moulded red brick tops. Single storey with attics, 8 bay front, having off-centre C20 door with to left 6 and to right a single, 2 light plain casements, all openings have wooden lintels. In the roof are 4 gabled dormers with 2 light C20 glazing bar casements and rendered cheeks. Rear elevation of 10 irregular bays contains 7 semi-circular headed openings with keyed ashlar surrounds, possibly dating from Vanbrugh's remodelling. Listing NGR: TF0196922616
