Description

Note - Barronby is a spelling mistake - the road is actually called Barrowby Road 607/2/201 BARRONBY ROAD 20-APR-72 51-55 II Terrace of three town-houses. Built c. 1820, with C20 alterations. Brick. Chamfered brick plinth. Shallow pitched hipped roof with deeply overhanging bracketed eaves. Two brick chimney stacks with ashlar caps. Central house slightly recessed, each house has broad projection to side of door. Entrance front has 6 windows with flat brick lintels and 3x4-pane glazing bar sashes. 3 front doors each with a 6-panel door and fanlight in round arched and panelled door surround. INTERIOR. No. 53 retains many of its original interior features including panelled doors, door surrounds, window surrounds with shutters, skirting boards, picture rails and plaster coving. A fine cantilevered staircase with stick balusters, turned newel post and mahogany handrail. Entrance hall has stone flagged floor. Main reception room has original painted fireplace and moulded archway. Back room has original painted fireplace and fitted cupboards and stone flagged floor. Two further original fireplaces survive on first floor. Attic room or upper store room has lime-ash floor. Nos. 53 and 55 retain original sashes to rear, No. 51 has been radically extended to rear in 1960s. Nos. 51 an 55 also retain good quality staircases. Low front terrace has 4 steps and garden wall. Stone capped wall with gate-piers at front of garden. No. 55 has been rendered with tiles at the side. Listing NGR: SK9089536211
