Description
GOSBERTON Beach Bank TF 12 NE (north side) 6/38 Rigbolt House 7.2.67 II House. C16, late C18, extended C19 and altered at rear in C20. Red brick in Flemish bond, fainted brick and ashlar quoins and dressings, limestone plint hand coursed and squared limestone rubble gable and rear walls. Slate roof, brick coped partly tumbled gable, 2 rebuilt brick gable stacks. T-plan. 2 storey plus attics, 3 bay front with plinth, first floor band, fascia and lion's head gutter. Central 6 panel door with delicately traceried fanlight, panelled reveals and archivolt, semi-circular head, fluted pilastered doorcase, open dentillated pediment flanked by single glazing bar sashes with semi-circular heads, with painted stucco heads and mock pointing. To first floor 3 similar windows. In the roof are 2 glazing bar sash dormer windows with segmental head roofs and slate hung cheeks. To the rear a stone and brick range has been raised C20. Built into the walling are 3 medieval stone heads. Interior has a stick baluster stair with open string and mahogany handrail. Semi- circular archway with keystone to hallway. Right hand room has dado panelling, 2 semi-circular alcove arches with fluted pilasters and keyblocks, plain white marble fireplace. Left hand room has 2 similar arches. 6 panel doors throughout. A print dated 1793 shows an earlier stone C16 house on the site, which is moated and was formerly a cell of a Gilbertine house. Listing NGR: TF1944328192
