Description
HECKINGTON HIGH STREET TF 1443-1543 (south side) 11/62 No.63, The Red House, gate and railings 1/2/57 II House, gate and railings. c.1787, altered early C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, slate roof with raised stone coped gables, 2 gable stacks, cast iron railings. T-plan. 3 storey, 5 bay front with first and second floor bands. Central half glazed double doors up 3 ashlar steps. Plain wood pilastered surround with narrow leaded hood. Flanked by pairs of tall glazing bar sashes with rectangular early C19 top lights. To first floor are 5 glazing bar sashes and to second floor are 5 similar smaller windows. All windows have flat rubbed brick arched heads. Interior retains 6 panelled doors and a dogleg turned baluster staircase with carved string. In the right hand room is raised and fielded dado panelling and in the left hand room a mid C19 white marble fireplace with semi-circular arched opening. In front of the house are early C19 spear point railings on a sandstone ashlar plinth with matching central double gates. The posts have urn finials and the corner piers are of yellow brick with pyramidal limestone ashlar copings. Listing NGR: TF1421643882
