Description
HECKINGTON HIGH STREET TF 1443-1543 (south side) 11/61 Nos. 51 and 53 G.V. II House, now 2 houses and shop. c.1730, altered late Cl9 and C20. T-plan. Red brick in Flemish bond, slate roof, 2 brick gable stacks. 2 storey, 5 bay front with ashlar plinth and first floor band. Central C20 door covered by C20 glazed porch now containing reset early C18 double raised and fielded panelled doors. To left are 2 plain sashes. To right is a pent roofed added shop front with central half glazed door flanked by large plain windows. To first floor are 5 plain sashes. All windows have flat brick arched heads. Interior retains altered early C18 staircase with carved string, panelled undersides and widely spaced reset knopped and turned balusters. The stair was altered in the late C19 when a carved newel was added and most of the balusters removed. Otherwise there are a few displaced pieces of raised and fielded panelling.
