Description

Subject to a minor amendment on 19 January 2018. Name changed from Desarmais, to Middlefield House. SK 9248-9348, 8/53 CAYTHORPE, HIGH STREET (east side), No. 46, Middlefield House (Formerly listed as: Desarmais) G.V.II House, 1678 with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed ironstone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, slate roof with one moulded stone and one brick ridge stacks. Two storey plus cellar irregular 6-bay front. Off-centre panelled door in moulded C17 surround with cornice. To left, one 3 and two 4-light cavetto mullioned windows. To right a small single C17 light in a moulded surround with beyond a C20 3-light glazed door with C17 cornice over. On the first floor are five 3-light mullioned windows in moulded surrounds. All C17 windows have moulded cornices. In the gable wall to street are single 3-light mullioned windows on both storeys, the upper one of which rests on a flush sill band. Above the upper window is a plaque inscribed MTM 1678. Inside are beams with chamfers and stops and in hall chamber upstairs is a fine beam with date plaque in cable-moulded surround dated 1678.
