Description

TF 03 NW BRACEBY AND SAPPERTON MAIN STREET (south side) 3/9 Braceby Church Farm House G.V. II Farm House: Late C16 with C17 and c.1700 additions and alterations and minor C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, pantile roof with 2 raised stone coped gables, one stone ridge stack, one stone gable stack and one brick gable stack. L-plan. Elevation to road has 2 storey irregularly fenestrated long wing with single bay single storey with attics gabled cross wing to the right. In the long wing is a C20 3 light glazing bar casement set in a larger blocked opening with original C16 hoodmould and label stops. To the left, and above this opening, can be seen changes in build which indicate that this wing was raised and extended. Beyond is a single fixed light and above are two 2-light glazing bar casements with timber lintels that on the left being set at a lower level. The remainder of this elevation is blank. The projecting cross wing has 2 very weathered 3-light ovolo mullion casements with cornices, flanking the first floor window are single C14 carved heads incorporated into the masonry. The 2 bay front of the cross wing has a plinth and flush band of larger stones at first floor level. On the right is a 3 light cavetto moulded mullion window with cornice. Above are 2 C20 through- eaves gabled dormers. A later C19 single storey extension conceals 2 further 3 light C17 mullion windows in the south gable. The interior has a large C16/C17 inglenook fireplace with moulded stone piers and chamfer stopped beam. Exposed beams in the long wing are of c.1700 type with small stops. The roof over the cross wing has ties which are about 1200mm above first floor level and pass in front of an in-situ C17 window. It is a clasped purlin roof with cross bracing to the lower half, likely to be late C16. The c.1700 roof to the long wing is of the staggered butt purlin type. Listing NGR: TF0153635332
