Description

HOLBEACH FLEET ROAD TF 3624 - 3724 (north side) 16/61 Fleet Hospital II Workhouse, now hospital. 1837, enlarged 1851, 1867, 1871, C20. Brown brick with red brick dressings. Hipped slate roofs with single ridge and single lateral stacks to east range. Long low east range with tripartite range attached to west with octagonal lantern rising above the position where the 3 radiating ranges meet. East range with central two and a half storey range of 5 bays and flanked by 2 storey, 9 bay wings that are slightly set back with outer 2 bays on each side projecting far forward. Small plinth, painted first floor bands and painted quoins. Central 3 bays project slightly with central doorway with overlight, plain doorcase and pedimented hood. Doorway flanked by 2 plain sashes; beyond to right and left are single small pivotal C20 casements with 6 plain sashes beyond them on each side, the outermost being slightly smaller. 2 plain sashes in each of the outer projecting bays. 5 plain sashes above with single longer plain sashes beyond on each side. 7 plain sashes beyond on each side with small narrow windows between the third and fourth bays from the outer bays. Central range with 5 small plain sashes above. All the windows with cambered heads with flush wedge lintels, some of them painted. Ranges to rear with similar plain sashes and some low C20 extensions. C20 central octagonal lantern. Listing NGR: TF3700424908
