Description

ASGARBY AND HOWELL Asgarby TF 14 NW 3/9 Asgarby Hall II House, late C17, altered and refronted early C19 in the Tudor taste, porch added 1873. Red brick rendered, the right hand gable is of coursed limestone rubble with the ashlar quoins of the C17 phase, and a chamfered plinth can also be seen beneath the render on that side. The render is coarsely textured and the stucco rusticated quoins are dressed with flint chips. Hipped slate roof with 2 wall stacks. L-plan. 2 storey plus attics 3 bay front with plinth, rusticated quoins, first floor cill band, diaper stucco eaves dressings and paired wooden brackets to the gables. Central half glazed panelled door with traceried Tudor arched head covered by a gabled yellow brick porch with turned wooden balusters supporting a sprocketed gabled roof with openwork timbers and finial. Flanked by single canted bays with tall glazing bar windows, the central ones are French doors and hipped slate roofs. To first floor is a central window in a pointed surround flanked by single 2 light glazing bar casements in rectangular surrounds. All windows have Tudor arched heads and matching tracery. In the roof are 2 hipped dormers, each with 2 fixed paired lights and slate hung cheeks. Interior has Tudor arched doorways. Listing NGR: TF1166845306
