Description

BRANT BROUGHTON AND STRAGGLETHORPE HIGH STREET SK 95 SW (east side) 6/44 The Old Hall 4.12.69 GV II House. Late C17 and early C18, with early C19 additions and alterations. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and rendered brick additions. C19 slate hipped roof with large rubble and brick stack. Chamfered stone plinth and brick band above first floor. 2 storey with extra half storey added in C19. 3 bay by 2 bay rectangular plan. South front has slightly off-centre early C18 doorway with elaborate moulded surround and rustication, topped with a segmental pediment. Part glazed, 6 panel door, with small glazing bar sash to left. Either side single tripartite glazing bar sashes. Above the doorway a single glazing bar sash, flanked by single tripartite glazing bar sashes. All these windows have rendered lintels with keystones. Above again 3 small sashes. The west front has central C20 half-glazed door flanked by single tripartite glazing bar sashes. Above a single tripartite sash, and a partially blocked similar window now containing C20 casement. Above again 2 small sashes. The north front, has a single 4 light, C17 chamfered mullion window under a drip mould on the ground floor. Above a central 2-light mullion window, flanked by single 4-light mullion windows that to left has lost its central mullion, all under a continuous drip mould. The remaining windows are C20.
