Description
LINCOLN SK97SE MONKS ROAD 1941-1/2/271 (South side) 08/10/53 Ruins of chancel at Monks Abbey GV II Ruins of the chancel of Monks Abbey, a cell of St Mary's Abbey, York. Now a roofless ruin. C13 and late C14. Repaired and consolidated 1985 and 1990. Coursed rubble and dressed stone, with ashlar dressings. Chamfered plinth and quoins. South side has a central rectangular light flanked by two C14 2-light pointed arched windows with ogee heads and panel tracery. North side has a similar single lancet. East end has a stepped string course and remains of a similar lancet. All the windows have splayed reveals and hoodmoulds. South-west end has a filleted respond.
