LINCOLN SK9771SE MONKS ROAD 1941-1/12/264 (North side) 09/03/73 Gibney Building at Lincolnshire College of Art and Design II Formerly known as: Old City School MONKS ROAD. Former Technical School, now College of Art and Design. 1885. By George Sedger of London. Brick with stone dressings and plain tile roof with 2 coped side wall stacks. Dutch Renaissance Revival style. EXTERIOR: moulded plinth, first floor cornice and frieze, second floor cornice, parapet, scroll pedimented coped gables. 2 storeys, 7 bays. Recessed centre, 5 bays, with flanking wings. Slightly projecting central feature with elliptical arched door and keystone, under an enriched frieze and broken segmental pediment with ball finials. On either side, 2 cross casements, and beyond, single windows with transoms. Above, central canted oriel window with pseudo balustrade and bracketed round headed gable with crest and finials. On either side, 2 windows with transoms. Above again, a square wooden bellcote, 2 stages, with round headed openings and a square leaded dome, topped with a fleche. Each wing has 2 round headed windows and above, 6 narrow cross casements. INTERIOR has a central stairwell with fluted pilasters and moulded plaster cased beams. Stone dogleg stair with cast-iron balustrade and wooden handrail. Landing with pilasters and 3 Ionic piers, and cross beam ceiling.
