LINCOLN SK9771NE LINDUM ROAD 1941-1/9/199 (North West side) 15/08/73 Lincolnshire College of Art & Design GV II Formerly known as: Christ Hospital Girls' School LINDUM ROAD. Former girls' school, now a College of Art. 1893, with additions 1911, by William Watkins of Lincoln. Brick with terracotta dressings and slate roof with 2 gable and 6 side wall stacks. Renaissance Revival free style. EXTERIOR/PLAN: moulded bands, friezes with cartouches, bracketed corbel table, coped gables, those to the main block with scroll brackets. Irregular plan, with symmetrical main block and flanking wings, linked by a 3 storey range to a gabled western block. Main block has a central doorway flanked by single 3-light mullioned windows, all with round heads. Above, 3 ogee headed mullioned windows. Above and behind, 3 elliptical headed windows with superimposed triple lights. Left wing has 2 cross casements on each floor. Right wing, 3 storeys, has pilasters. On the lower floors, 2 cross casements, and above, 2 mullioned casements. To its right, a smaller set back wing. To left, a set back linking range, 2 bays, and beyond, west block, 3 storeys, with pilasters and mullioned and transomed windows. To south-east and to west, porches with segmental pediments with Latin inscriptions, dated 1911. West side has a stepped staircase corridor with parapet and 10 round headed windows. To north-west, hall, 6 bays, with 4 elliptical arched windows and above, 6 lozenge shaped windows. In the west gable, a large round window. INTERIOR has a stone dogleg staircase with terracotta balustrade and rubbed brick elliptical arches. Main hall has an elliptical arched arcade, and a gallery above with segmental arched arcade. C20 gallery and proscenium at the ends. Elaborate pseudo-hammer beam roof with arch braces, traceried spandrels and drops.
