Description

BILSBY THURLBY ROAD TF 47 NE (north side) 3/62 Moat House 3-2-67 II Farmhouse. Mid C17 with mid C19 alterations. Red brick in English bond, steeply pitched pantile roof, with central clustered ridge stack and reduced tumbled gables. T-plan. 2 storey with garrets, 3 bay front, the central bay advanced and separately gabled to form 2 storey porch. Deep plinth with chamfered top, brick band to first floor. The central contemporary door has a deeply moulded lozenge to upper and lower panels and is set in an architrave with shield shaped stops. Door and architrave moved from inside porch to present position. The doorway has a semi-circular head with imposts and the brick band is curved over the arch. Either side of the door are C19 inset boot-scrapers. Above is a 3 light sliding sash and to left hand side is a small semi-circular headed light. The porch is flanked by single margin lights to each floor. To the rear is an original 3 light timber cross mullion window with leaded lights, lighting the stair and a C18 single storey 2 bay kitchen range with brick coped tumbled gable. Interior has C17 staircase with square knopped newels and bulbous balusters, probably reset, with deeply moulded handrail and a chamfered beam in kitchen. Original pegged, clasped purlin roof with ridge piece. The house is set in an earlier moated enclosure. Listing NGR: TF4719276497
