Description
TATHWELL THE OLD VICARAGE TF 38 SW 1844-0/4/10000 II Former vicarage. 1849. By S.S Teulon. Red brick in flemish bond; plain and patterned tile roofs. 2 storeys and attic with 1 storey kitchen wing; 3:1 bay entrance front with kitchen wing on right. Asymmetrical. Entrance front: bay 1 projects and has projecting stack against shaped gable with brick copings. Gabled 1 storey projection to bay 3 with 3/6-pane sash beneath shaped gable; round -headed door in left return reached from open porch with lean-to roof on pierced splat balustrading. Above porch is a double-transomed, ovolo-moulded, 3-light stair window with rubbed-brick flat arch; 3/6 pane sash to right. Corbel table at eaves; 2-light roof dormer with timbered gable; coped end gable to right has brick stack. Renewed plain tiles. On right of main range a lean-to against gabled stair turret having narrow sashes to 1st and 2nd floors and with large end stack on right pierced by bellcote opening. Kitchen wing: stepped tripartite window under coped gable; small square projection to right corner has pyramidal roof; patterned tile roofs. Rear: canted 1-storey bay with 12-pane sashes; shaped gable to right with projecting stack pierced by ground-floor window. Left return: tripartite sash to shallow bay window; shaped gable to right; decorative hoppers with initials of Teulon and builder (RR). Interior: stairhall with 2-bay arcade and cantilevered staircase with splat balustrade and moulded handrail. 2 marble fireplaces; that to rear-left, ground floor room set beneath a window with mirrored shutter. Original ceilings subdivided by dowel ribs with bosses. 4-panel doors in broad architraves. Plain service stair. Rebuilt single-storey wing to north-west not of special interest.
