Description

BUCKNALL MAIN STREET TF 16 NE 6/13 The Old Rectory 14-9-66 G.V. II Former rectory, now house. c.1700 with C19 and C20 alterations. Red brick in English bond, colour washed, pantile roofs, 2 wall, 1 gable and 1 ridge stacks. L-plan. 2 storey irregular 7 bay front, the left hand 3 bays being slightly advanced and united under 2 shaped gables. The left hand bays also have 2 brick bands and in the gables are oval sunk panels. The right hand bays have a dentillated eaves course. The off centre 6 panelled C20 door with plain overlight, panelled reveals and fluted C19 Doric doorcase having frieze enriched with leaves and pediment with paterae to the archivolt. Flanked by single glazing bar sashes. Above on the left are 2 similar windows with between a blocked opening. All windows have cambered heads. To right is a C20 half glazed door with to left 2 narrow and one wider glazing bar sashes. To first floor are 4 glazing bar sashes to eaves. To right of front is a C20 garage block. To rear are 2 gables matching those to the front. Interior has very fine early C18 staircase moved from Boston in 1960s, with 3 balusters per tread each one different, twist, barley twist and fluted, all knopped. The moulded handrails are both wreathed and the string is elaborately carved. The newels are fluted with Ionic capitals. The beams were originally cased in and there are 2 corner fireplaces with round backs. Listing NGR: TF1691668829
