Description
MAIDENWELL RUCKLAND CHURCH LANE TF 37 NW (north-east side) 7/29 Church of St.Olave 9.3.67 II Parish church. 1885 by W. Scorer. Green sandstone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings. Plain tiled roof with decorative red ridge tiles, overhanging eaves and bargeboards, and a small bellcote incorporated under overhanging west gable supported on a wooden frame. Nave and chancel in one with west bellcote. West front with large plate wheel window. North side with single lancet. East end with pointed window with 3 trefoil headed plate lights. South side with single lancet with doorway to west, with pointed head and plank door. C19 wagon roof, pews, pulpit and lectern. C20 octagonal font. Fragmentary medieval stoup. Cll coffin lid inscribed with a foliated cross. Another small fragment, probably Cll, inscribed with cross. Both fragments re- set in south wall. Gravestone re-set in west wall to Charles Humfrey, died 1719. Said to be the smallest church in Lincolnshire according to local oral tradition. Listing NGR: TF3341578049
