WAINFLEET ALL SAINTS BARKHAM STREET TF 45 NE (south side) 6/68 Nos.3-12 (consecutive) G.V. II Terrace of 10 houses. 1847, designed by Sydney Smirke, C20. Red brick with colourwashed stucco dressings. Slate roofs, hipped to east, with stone coped gable to west and stone coping defining roof of each house. 7 ridge and single gable stacks. 2 and a half storeys with basement. 18 bay north front with first floor sill band and deeply moulded second floor band. Steps lead up to doorway to left with moulded architrave, reveal and panelled door. Glazing bar sash with large panes and moulded architrave to right. 8 doorways beyond, all with moulded architraves, reveals and panelled doors, alternate with 8 projecting rectangular bay windows, all with small basement openings and tripartite glazing bar sashes above with flanking pilasters, broad entablatures and moulded cornices above. 18 glazing bar sashes with large panes, above, all with moulded architraves. 18 small glazing bar sashes above, all with cambered heads. East side with first and second floor bands continued and with slightly set back curved north-east corner bay. Doorway to left with moulded architrave, reveal and panelled door. Rectangular bay window to right with basement window and upper tripartite glazing bar sash with pilasters, broad entablature and moulded cornice. Basement tripartite glazing bar sash with segmental head beyond; with glazing bar sash with large panes and moulded architrave above. Single similar window beyond in curved bay with insurance plaque above. 4 similar but smaller sashes above, with 4 small glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, above. Built for Bethlem Hospital in the style of similar tenements built for the same body in Southwark. Listing NGR: TF4985659055
