TF 46 SW LITTLE STEEPING BACK LANE (South side) 1501/3/57 The Cottage 17.12.1987 II* Cottage. Mid C18 with C19 alterations. Colourwashed mud and stud with brick plinth. Half hipped thatched roof under corrugated iron sheeting. Single central red brick stack with later stack added to left. Single storey and garret, and lobby entrance plan. Main 3 window front, with central plank door flanked by single glazing bar sash windows with segmental heads. Left return has single 2-light sliding sash window with over-lapping pains of glass. Right return has single 2-light sliding sash window to each floor, both with glazing bars. Rear facade has continuous low catslide extension with low brick outer wall, built in two stages, that section to right with pantile roof. Left section contains single small off-centre fixed window. INTERIOR retains original two room plan with central stacke and lobby entrance. Original wooden winder staircase behind the stack. Original 2 panel doors. Simple largely original roof structure supports thatched roof. This is a remarkably well preserved example of the once very common local mud and stud' cottages.
