Description
TF 3239-3339 FRAMPTON MIDDLEGATE ROAD (south side) 15/67 Hunwell House 26.1.67 II* House. Early C18, with minor C19 alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond with slate roof having 2 brick gable stacks and tumbled brick gables. T-plan. 2 storey plus attics, 5 bay front with first floor band. Central 6 panel door with traceried overlight, wood panelled reveals, pedimented doorcase with Doric pilasters flanked by pairs of glazing bar sashes, segmental brick heads. To first floor are 5 similar windows to eaves. In the roof are 2 glazing bar sash dormers with slate hung cheeks and leaded roofs. The rear range is roofed with plain clay tiles. In the gable are 'T' ties for Tunnard family. Interior retains full height panelling in parlour and dado panelling in other front room. Shutters throughout. Dogleg staircase with turned and knopped balusters. Kitchen has broad fireplace with bressumer having run out stop. Possibly built as the Dower House to Frampton Hall, the seat of the Tunnard family.
