SPILSBY MARKET PLACE TF 4066-4166 7/66 Statue to Sir John Franklin (formerly 3.2.67 listed under High Street) G.V. II Statue of Sir John Franklin. 1861, by C. Bacon of London. Portland stone, ashlar base, bronze figure. Tall square stone base, with deep plinth, side panel inscribed "Sir John Franklin, Discoverer of the North West Passage. Born at Spilsby April 1786, died in the Arctic regions, June 1847". The standing figure is inscribed with the name of the sculptor. He stands resting on an anchor, one hand holding a telescope.
