Description
TF 03 NE ASWARBY AND SWARBY MAIN STREET (North side) 7/15 Nos 3 - 5 (incl) G.V. II Terrace of estate cottages. 1845. Built for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. Coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, slate roofs having raised stone coped gables with moulded kneelers and 3 banks of ashlar lozenge stacks with stepped cornices. Single storey plus attics 7 bay front, the middle 3 bays are slightly advanced and gabled. Central double planked half glazed doors with segmental headed chamfered surround set in a gabled porch with the date 1845 above the door on a rectangular datestone. Flanked by single light windows. Beyond to either side are pairs of 2 light windows. To first floor is a central 2 light window which is flanked by pairs of through eaves gabled dormers with raised gables, ashlar cheeks and 2 light windows. All windows have chamfered stone surrounds and chamfered timber mullions with moulded heads to ground floor only. To central gable is a shield bearing the Whichcote arms. To either end of the block are attached gabled porches with chamfered segmental outer arches bearing the Whichcote cypher. Listing NGR: TF0683639990
