Description
CLAYTHORPE AUTHORPE ROAD TF 47 NW (south side) 2/13 Empire Mills II Water mill, now restaurant. Originally C18, largely rebuilt early C19 and top storey in 1890 after fire. Colourwashed brickwork, hipped pantile roof. 3 storey, 3 bay front with planked door to ground floor, and above to both floors 3 small glazing bar casements with painted brick arches. The mill was formerly powered by an overshot water wheel which was replaced, after the fire, by a turbine. The steel wheel and gearing remain and the turbine is housed at the rear of the mill in a small outshot with a tall brick chimney stack. This is the last regularly worked water mill in Lincolnshire, but the water power has not been used since 1977. Source: Neil R. Wright. Listing NGR: TF4141179015
