Description
BOSTON TF3344NW WILLOUGHBY ROAD 716-1/5/241 (East side) 27/05/49 (Consecutive) Maud Foster Windmill and granary GV I Tower mill and granary. 1819, repaired and restored 1988. For Isaac Beckitts of Wainfleet. Gault brick, red brick, pantile roof. Mill tower of 7 stages in Gault brick. Painted timber and canvas ogee cap with 5 full sails and fan tail. EXTERIOR: to the 3rd floor a cantilevered timber balcony on timber brackets, with cross motif balustrade. To the ground floor a pair of planked doors up 3 stone steps. Yorkshire sash windows to each stage with segmental heads. To the left a 3-storey, 4-bay, red brick granary with hipped pantile roof, and brick dog-toothed eaves. To each floor a pair of planked doors to the left, with beyond to left a single, and to right a pair, of Yorkshire sash windows. In the roof a C20 timber planked and gabled lucam on timber brackets. All openings have brick segmental heads. INTERIOR: retains original floor beams and repaired stair ladders and full mill machinery dating from 1819 by Norman and Smithson of Hull. It has 8 sets of stones and is in full working order. Listing NGR: TF3317244754
