Description
TF 39 NE MARSH CHAPEL CHURCH LANE 6/38 Norman Cottage G.V. II Curate's house, now house. c.1870, entirely in fanciful Norman Revival Style, C20 alterations and extension. Red brick with pantile roof having raised coped gables, 2 round gable and single square ridge stacks. Cruciform plan. Single storey with attics, having herringbone courses to base, clasping pilaster buttresses to angles, scalloped corbels to eaves and verge, and also to gable a zone of angled textured brickwork. Side walls of projecting centre bay are enriched with intersecting blank arcading. 8 bay front arranged 3:3:2 the middle bays advanced and gabled. Central planked door with elaborate wrought iron hinges with semi-circular head and dogtooth and chevron moulding to the reveals with paired moulded angle shafts, flanked by single plain fixed lights. To first floor are 2 plain casements. These windows have round heads, moulded reveals and angle shafts. To gable a small plain fixed light. To left a wider plain casement window is flanked by single fixed lights having moulded angle shafts and semi-circular heads. To right are 2 similar windows. Above are single through eaves gabled dormers having single plain casements, moulded round heads and angle shafts. All the specials used in the brick construction are moulded. To the right is a C20 extension in a matching style. Interior retains a moulded brick fireplace with semi-circular Norman arch, zigzag details on 2 orders. The doorways also have zigzag semi- circular arches. The ceiling has moulded beams and plain joists in square pattern. The stair treads are enriched with chevron moulding. In first floor are 2 smaller brick fireplaces matching that on the ground floor. Listing NGR: TF3600698764
