TF 29 NE LUDBOROUGH MAIN STREET 4/34 The Manor House 6.6.52 G.V. II* House. C16 with C19 and C20 alterations. Red brick rendered and colourwashed with slate roof and 2 yellow brick ridge stacks. Cross passage plan. 2 storey, irregular 7 bay front having plinth, double first floor string course and intermittent eaves band with central 2 storeyed C19 porch. Central 6 panelled door in C16 stone surround with quirked sunk wave moulding, flanked by C19 Doric columns in antis with cornice over. The C19 outer doorway is 4 centred and of moulded brick. To left are glazing bar sashes, one to the ground. To the right is a glazing bar sash with above and to the left, a pediment. Beyond is a 3 light sliding sash window and a planked C19 door. To first floor are 6 glazing bar sashes. To left hand gable a disconnected pediment rises above the string course. Rear elevation has a central porch extended to right in C20. It has an outer 4 centred archway with chamfered square surround. The sides of the porch have 4 centred blank arches of moulded brick. The inner doorway is C19 in its present form but to the right the original C16 splayed reveal is visible. To left is a probably original opening with stepped reveal and pediment and beyond again is a further smaller pedimented opening. The double string course noted on the front of the house continues across this elevaton and the end bays project slightly and are separately roofed. Interior. The left hand end room has a very fine C16 ceiling comprising a moulded and dentillated beam with jewelled and strapwork ends, the joists are concave moulded with fish scale decoration and shield shaped stops. Over the rear window is a panel with ornate strapwork decoration. In the hall is a timber corbel, deeply carved, supporting a post and beam with chamfered stop. At the right hand end the room has splayed and shield shaped stops to joists and beam. The roof is complete and is of clasped purlin construction with large rafters, ridge and collars, and through purlins with numbered principals. Listing NGR: TF2952095466
