BOSTON TF3344NW WILLOUGHBY ROAD 716-1/5/242 Maud Foster Drain, walls, steps, and 23/05/90 railings GV II Includes: Maud Foster Drain, walls, steps and railings HORNCASTLE ROAD. Drainage channel walls, steps and railing. Circa 1810. Originally by John Rennie, altered C20. Red brick, ashlar gritstone, oak. Brick retaining walls, renewed C20, gritstone ashlar coping blocks. The walls rake down to the water level and terminate at Bargate Bridge to the south and curve round to stop ends at the north. On both sides of the drain, towards Bargate Bridge end are pairs of pedestrian steps set within the thickness of the wall, leading to a small stone platform at the base. On the west side, beside Bargate Bridge, are wider steps with curved side walls in original brickwork, with ashlar quoins. The retaining walls apart from one higher section on the west side, terminate at road level and have early C20 oak posts and rail balustrades. Listing NGR: TF3312944645
