Description
BOSTON TF3243NE HIGH STREET 716-1/10/61 (East side) 27/05/49 No.116 GV II* House. Early C18, altered and extended late C18 and late C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, with painted ashlar dressings, stone and rendered plinth, slate and concrete tile roof, stone coped, gable stacks are reduced. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus cellar and attics, 5-bay front, with sill bands, stucco platt band, cornice and parapet. Central 6-panel door, with sidelights, radiating traceried fanlight, round-headed surround, 3 steps. Flanked by pairs of sashes with shouldered architraves. To 1st floor 5 similar windows, the central one has a stepped keystone. To the roof 3 dormer windows. To the rear a late C18 2-storey brick bow. INTERIOR: retains 2 early C18 full height panelled rooms, with fireplaces of similar date, panelled doors, 2 traceried late C18 internal oval-shaped windows. Adam-style ceiling to rear rom and good late C19 staircase with stained glass window. HISTORY: the private residence of Thomas Garfit JP, founder of the 1st bank in Boston in 1754.
