Description

TF 03 NW AUNSBY AND DEMBLEBY DEMBLEBY 6/28 Parish Church of 1.2.67 St. Lucia II Parish church. 1867-8. By Charles Kirk of Sleaford in the Norman Revival style. Rock faced limestone with ashlar quoins and dressings, plain tiled roof with raised stone coped gables and crested ridge. Nave with double bellcote, south porch, vestry and apsidal chancel. The exterior has pilaster buttresses, a chamfered plinth and looped and scrolled corbel table. To the west is a pair of round headed windows with a circular window over. At the gable is a gabled double bellcote with dogtoothed surround to the openings, a circular midwall shaft and engaged side shafts. In the north wall are 3 windows with round heads and roll moulded surrounds. In the east wall of the vestry is a similar smaller window. In the apse are 5 round headed windows with angle shafts, cushion capitals and chamfered surrounds, there is a chamfered cill band. In the south wall are 2 windows matching those to the north. The gabled south porch has a mid C12 style outer doorway with 2 moulded orders of a roll and a chevron supported on paired angle shafts with cushion capitals. The inner doorway has a single order of roll moulding interrupted by plain chevrons. Interior: The round headed chancel arch has 2 plain chamfered orders and half engaged round side shafts with stiff leaf capitals. In the north wall of the chancel a broad double chamfered arch with half engaged shafted reveals and octagonal capitals opens into the vestry. The sanctuary has fine Minton tiles and behind the altar is a limestone reredos with paterae, crosses saltire and cushion capitals.Fittings: Are all C19 including the circular ashlar pulpit with blank fluted arcading to the sides. At the rear of the nave, the font is a handsome C12 late C12 pillar piscina with chevrons to the stem, a cushion capital with paterae and chip carved stars to the top. Listing NGR: TF0422237729
