Description

BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9237 LOW ROAD, Manthorpe 1315-0/11/134 (North West side) 21/09/79 Fern Cottage (Formerly Listed as: LOW ROAD, Manthorpe No.13 Fern Cottage) II Estate cottage, now house. Early C19, remodelled mid C19, with late C20 additions and alterations. Brick with ashlar dressings and renewed pantile roof. 2 corbelled brick gable stacks with twisted coped double flues. Windows, reglazed with metal framed casements, have chamfered stone surrounds and mullions. 2 storeys; 3 window range. Three 2-light windows, the central one without a mullion. Central C20 door with wooden surround, flanked by 3-light windows. To left, a late C20 single storey flat roofed addition. An estate cottage provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N, Harris J & Antram N: Lincolnshire: London: 1964-1989: 550).
