LINCOLN SK9771SW HIGH STREET 1941-1/11/156 (West side) 02/10/69 No.225 National Westminster Bank GV II Formerly known as: No.225 Premises occupied by National Provincial Bank HIGH STREET. Bank. 1883. By John Gibson. Ashlar and gault brick, with hipped slate roof with lead verges. 8 ridge stacks with dentilled cornices. Italianate style. Plinth, sill band, rusticated ground floor, first floor band, modillion eaves. 3 storeys, 7 bays. High Street front has 6 plain windows with round heads and keystones, and to right, a moulded doorway with a tablet above it inscribed "Smith's Bank", and a shell tympanum. Above, 7 plain sashes with bracketed cornices. Above again, 7 smaller sashes with moulded architraves. Return front, to Mint Street, has to left a 5 bay version of the High Street front. To the right, brick ranges, 2 and 4 storeys, 7 bays, in a simplified version of the same style. INTERIOR has a restored banking hall with round headed blind arches and 4 central Doric columns linked by round arches. Panelled cross beam plaster ceiling.
