Description

TF 23 NW BICKER MORLEY LANE (north side) 7/26 Morley Cottages (formerly 27/2/79 listed as two cottages approx G.V. 85 yards West North West of II (Morley House ) House, later converted to pair of cottages. C16, possibly incorporating earlier core, altered C18, C19. Timber frame, mud and stud, coursed limestone rubble, red brick and render. Pantile roof with one raised coped gable and one half hip, originally over thatch. Single axial ridge and gable stacks. Originally lobby entry plan. 2 storey, 5 bay front with dentillated eaves course, having central blocked doorway with to left a pair of sliding glazing bar sashes and a plain door. To right a glazing bar sash and a half glazed Cl9 door. All openings have segmental brick heads. To first floor are 2 small glazing bar casements to eaves. The coursed limestone rubble is in patches only to plinth level but is much cut about. The rear wall also has stone plinth, lower to the right and the wall, originally mud and stud, is now completely underbuilt in brick on the left hand side and to approximately half its height on the right hand side. The framing is of reversed assembly type. Interior retains chamfered girder with shield stop, an C18 softwood girder has been inserted into former open hall, and the original parlour end has 2 diamond stepped chamfered girders and now an early Cl9 wooden overmantle with roundels to kitchen range. On the first floor the timber bay posts survive with straight braces to wall plate which has regular small holes in the underside for earlier framing. The central tie beam is arched and braced. The C16 clasped purlin roof survives. Listing NGR: TF2261737511
