Description

LEASINGHAM ROOKERY LANE TF 04 NE (north side) 8/44 Horse Monument 10 metres north west of April Cottage - II Monument commemorating 10 horses. c1830. Ashlar. Square plan. Plain square base surmounted by a square block with chamfered corners, inscribed "GRANBY" and "LILLA". Above an octagonal block with chamfered top inscribed on each face "GROUSE", "STAFFA"; "RUPERT"; "PEERESS"; "DASH"; "MINNA"; BEAU" and "MILINER". Above a plain circular pier topped by a large ball finial. This monument was erected by Richard Myddleton to commemorate 10 of his favourite horses, and also to act as a garden ornament in the then grounds of his home, Leasingham Hall. April Cottage, Rookery Lane is not included in this list. Listing NGR: TF0561248344
