Description

BLAKNEY MAIN STREET TF 0660 (east side) 7/7 The Old school GV II School, now parish room. 1848 by W A Nicholson. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. Slate roof with ashlar coped gables and moulded kneelers. A pair of octagonal Tudor style white brick ridge stacks. White brick plinth. T- plan. Single storey. Main, east front, 5 bays with off-centre doorway, with cont;emporary door, and ashlar moulded 4 centred arched surround. To the left, three 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows topped with curved gables which project through the eaves and are surmounted by 3 ball finials each. To the right a slightly projecting single gabled bay, with a large 3-light recessed and chamfered cross mullion windows under a dripmould. The north 2 bay front, has another 4 centred arched doorway to the left and to the right a large 4-light recessed and chamfered cross mullion square bay window with stone hipped roof. Above, on the roof is a wooden bell canopy with a pyramidal fishscale tile hipped roof. This building is part of the complete estate village erected by the Chaplin family of Blankney Hall.
