Description
TF OO NE UFFINGTON BERTIE LANE (south side) 9/224 Ye Olde Bertie Arms II Public house. 1681 with C18 extension and C20 alteration. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins. Thatched roofs, with one hipped end. 2 brick ridge and single ashlar gable stack with moulded cornice and the initials SM and date 1681 carved in low relief. Now T-plan with later projecting wing. Single storey plus attics, 3 bay front having central C20 door, with to left single 2 light and to right a 3 light glazing bar casements. In the roof are 2 two light glazing bar casements with thatched eyebrows. Beyond to the right is a lower single bay service block with a 2 light glazing bar casement and beyond again a lower range with 3 blocked openings comprising a doorway with flanking windows. The projecting wing has a 3 light casement in the gable, and in the side a door flanked by single 2 light windows. Interior has an angled fireplace and chamfered main beams. Listing NGR: TF0640507635
