Description
TEMPLE BRUER with TEMPLE BRUER TF 05 SW TEMPLE HIGH GRANGE 3/60 Temple Farmhouse 1.2.67 II GV Farmhouse. C17, late C18, early C19, with C20 alterations and additions. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar and brick dressings. Pantile and slate roofs, with a single gable and 4 ridge ashlar stacks. Main C17 block, lobby entry plan running north-south, 2-storey with ashlar quoins, and ashlar coped gables with finials. South, gable front has a single glazing bar sash to each floor, in chamfered ashlar surrounds which originally contained mullion windows. The east front has an off-centre projecting, gabled, early C19 Tudor style porch with ashlar coped gables and kneelers, and a deeply recessed 4-centred arched doorway with half glazed door. To the left a single glazing bar sash in a projecting single storey link. To the right a pair of C20 glazed double doors, under a wooden lintel. Above a single glazing bar sash also under a wooden lintel. Attached to the north, the west wing, a 2-storey, single bay late C18 addition with a further early C19 single bay addition beyond. To the right a pair of C20 glazed double doors with flanking side lights under a wooden lintel, with to the. left a plank door and then a 3-light casement, both with segment brick heads. Above, two 3-light casements under wooden lintels. Attached to the north, the east wing, a 2-storey early C19 addition of 4 bays. To the left a pair of C20 glazed doors, with overlights and to the right two 2-light casements, above four 2-light mullion windows in chamfered surrounds with metal casements. This house is built on the site of one of the domestic ranges of the Knight's Templar's Preceptory, and a small fragment of reused medieval tracery survives in an upper window in the north gable.
